Comments (85)TO report Mark Hunter's proposals for a 20mph default limit in residential areas under the heading of an absolute joke' does a disservice to the communities your paper is read in.
It appears that the journalist has hunted down and put to prominence facts to suit his argument - the closing paragraphs deeply distort all the practical evidence and are from a very small lobby group, yet are given weight at the top and tail of the piece.
Simply put, Mr Hunter's proposal will save lives - it couldbe yours, your kids or your neighbours. It's a simple enough concept backed by compelling evidence: the transition from minor to non-minor injuries in road collisions happens at around 20mph.
Reducing speed from 30mph to 20mph reduces pedestrian deaths by 95 per cent and is a massive step towards creating streets that people feel confident using and enjoying.
It's not just about deaths, it's also about people feeling happy walking around on the streets they live in, and Mark Hunter's support for this Bill should be recommended. It's very disappointing to read such a weighted article on an issue so important to us as a national charity and to communities all over your area.
