MINNIE, a nine-year-old female Rottweiler - with a tail - came into the care of the local branch of the RSPCA on Friday August 1 because her owner was no longer around to take care of her.

Having been with the same owner for nine years, her world was turned upside down when she went first into kennels and then to the RSPCA.

She is spayed, micro chipped, wormed, flead, and has had her first vaccination.

The picture shows Minnie on her arrival at the branch, when she had an untreated eye infection. She looks a lot better now. She has an eyelid disorder, which is common in Rottweilers and inexpensive to treat, but antibiotics have worked wonders with the eye infection.

Minnie has a wonderful nature. Totally without malice, she has a nice temperament and is completely trustworthy. She has been brought up with children, is good with other dogs, but is not used to cats She needs a home with a decent size garden to run around in and play, lots of nice walks and a cosy bed where she can put her paws up.

She needs someone who is experienced with the breed, or other large breeds, and will make them a loyal companion. Minnie, who is being fostered in Bollington, can be rehomed with older children.

Her fosterer said: “Minnie is a superb dog. Having had Rotties for 30 years, I am surprised at Minnie’s age; she's definitely a spring chicken!

“She is very playful and loves her walks. She is very fit and healthy and has a few years ahead of her yet. Please don't let her age put you off. She loves to play ball and enjoys a good belly rub. She's great when she has to have her eyes bathed and drops put in. She enjoys a groom, she's perfectly house trained and above all, she loves everyone she meets.

“I can't fault Minnie, she's a wonderful dog and no trouble at all.”

Anyone interested in giving Minnie a loving home in her twilight years can phone the message service on 01625 669620 or email dogs@rspca-macclesfield.org.uk p Unfortunately Tye and Jasmine, previously featured in Animals in Need, are still looking for loving homes.

They have been in RSPCA care for more than three months now and can be seen at www.rspca-macclesfield.org.uk
